Man arrested after allegedly injuring wife for second time

- STEVEN MROSS

A local man was arrested Monday night after allegedly head-butting his wife, injuring her, and was charged with a felony count of battery because he was previously convicted of the same offense involving his wife.

Russell Sherwin Dixon, 48, of 904 Cones Road, was taken into custody at his residence shortly after 7 p.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, second offense, punishable by up to six years in prison.

Dixon remained in custody Tuesday on a zero bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court. He had pleaded guilty to a previous count of misdemeanor third-degree domestic battery on Aug. 20, 2020, and was sentenced to one year in jail, with all of it suspended, and 12 months’ supervised probation.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after 5:30 p.m. Monday, Hot Springs police Officer Seth Jones responded to a residence in the 400 block of Cones Road regarding a battery that reportedly occurred at 904 Cones.

He made contact with the alleged victim, 51, and immediately noticed blood coming from her nose and that her hands were bloody from trying to stop the blood from her nose.

She reportedly stated she and her husband, identified as Dixon, were in the kitchen when he accused her of knowing who stole a BB gun he owns and “became very upset.” She said they began to argue and Dixon “leaned his head back” and then “launched forward toward her.”

He said his forehead struck her nose, causing it to bleed. She then grabbed her keys and fled the scene. She noted Dixon was “highly intoxicated” at the time of the incident.

Officers made contact with Dixon at his residence and when he came to the door Jones noted he immediately noticed an odor of intoxicants and that Dixon’s speech was slurred. He read Dixon his Miranda rights, but Dixon said he did not understand them despite having them repeatedly explained.

At that point, Dixon was taken into custody, the affidavit said.
