Samuel Douglas Banks, 70, of Hot Springs, Ark., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021. Born April 24, 1951, to Sam and Juanita Graybanks in Harrodsbur­g, Ky. Sam was a member of Cottrell Chapel C.M.E. and his favorite scripture was Psalms 118:28.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Juanita Graybanks; sisters, Mary Patton and Maxine Flournoy; and brother, David Banks.

At an early age, Sam enjoyed working on the farm with his dad and later developed a love for horses when he was a teen. Sam loved working with horses at the Oaklawn race track and loved traveling with the track until his health would no longer allow him to. He loved spending time with family and friends and one of his favorite quotes was “Love and be kind to one another.” Even though Sam was on dialysis and had been for 27 years, he still was a gentle kind spirit who saw the good in everyone. Sam had a passion for flowers and wanted to see them nicely groomed. He was very gifted and loved to work on cars or just about anything. He loved playing the saxophone and drums.

Sam leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Samuel Lancaster, of Memphis, Tenn., and Anthony Lancaster, of Hot Springs, Ark.; sisters, Sue Gooch, of Stanford, Ky., and Marie Woodfork, of Hot Springs, Ark.; grandchild­ren, Twin Lancaster, Brittan Lancaster and Tir-yeano Lancaster, all of Bowling Green, Ky; and a host of nieces; nephews; extended family and friends.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, at Cottrell Chapel C.M.E., 698 East Grand Ave., Hot Springs, Ark., 71901. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021.
