PEARCY — James D. Ward, age 78, of Pearcy, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021.

He was born on May 17, 1943, in Glenwood, the son of Royce Ward and Evelyeen Pennington Ward. He was preceded in death by his father. On May 20, 1961, he was married to Pat Short.

James retired after 37 years with Entergy. He was an active member of the First Free Will Baptist Church for over 50 years. He served as an adult Sunday school teacher, as one of the unofficial handymen of the church and made sure everything was ready for the Christian Taekwondo ministry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching Razorback sports. James loved being home with family and working on the family farm at his mom’s home.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Ward of Pearcy; his daughter, Shelley Ward of Pearcy; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Kelli Ward of Conway; his twin grandchild­ren, Brynn Ward and Will Ward; his mother, Evelyeen Ward; two sisters, Laqueta Goodner and Gail Tidwell and her husband, Harley, all of Glenwood; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, in the Davis-smith Funeral Home chapel, Hot Springs, with Brother Doug Jones officiatin­g.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, until service time, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery, near Glenwood.

Pallbearer­s will be Kevin Mclean, Keith Lankford, John Hackney, Jacob Cogburn, Jacob Powell, Matthew Mclean and Taylor Gould.

Honorary pallbearer­s will be Harley Tidwell, Rick Geraci, David Tidwell, Johnny Webb, Bill Nary, Larry Collier and Lonnie Whisenhunt.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Dierksen Hospice, Senior Care of National Park Medical Center and Dr. James Humphreys and staff.
