Lieutenant governor candidate to speak to Republican Party of Garland County
Arkansas Surgeon General Dr. Greg Bledsoe, a candidate for lieutenant governor, will be the featured speaker at today’s Republican Party of Garland County meeting.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the conference center at 615 W. Grand Ave., in Hot Springs. The meeting was originally set for Feb. 3 but had to be rescheduled because of inclement winter weather.
Also during today’s meeting, the RPGC will elect a new chairman. Marcia Lieblong Albaugh, the RPGC 4th District committeewoman, was nominated during the Jan. 13 meeting, for the position vacated by Matt McKee.
Chair Kathy Edds said it is necessary to have a quorum of county committee members in order to hold the election, a news release said. If a committee member cannot attend, they may email their proxy to Jim Keary, RPGC secretary, at jlkeary@ gmail.com. A proxy form can be downloaded at http://www. TheRPGC.org.
After today’s meeting, candidates for the May Republican primary and RPGC County Committee members will be given the opportunity to file paperwork and pay filing fees. Applicable forms and filing fees must be submitted to the RPGC chairman or secretary before the filing deadline with the Garland County clerk between Feb. 22 and March 1.
Bledsoe, who has practiced emergency medicine for 20 years, was appointed Surgeon General for the state of Arkansas in 2015 by Gov. Asa Hutchinson. He is a fourth-generation Arkansan who grew up in Rogers, the release said.
“He says he is a lifelong conservative and Republican. He is dedicated to protecting the unborn, fighting for the Second Amendment, lowering taxes, investing in education, encouraging entrepreneurship and the state’s small businesses,” the release said.
He completed medical school
and his residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He spent five years on the faculty in the Johns Hopkins Department of Emergency Medicine.
Bledsoe has been married for 17 years and has three daughters.
