The Earth Angel Recycling Program is the city of Hot Springs’ curbside recycling service. It is provided free of charge as part of the services provided by the city’s Solid Waste Department. “Recycling is the best way to protect the environmen­t from overburden­ed landfills while reducing costs. By taking part in the Earth Angel Recycling Program, you have the opportunit­y to help ensure a healthy future for our community,” according to the Solid Waste Department.

The Earth Angel truck collects the following materials: aluminum cans; brown paper grocery bags; corrugated cardboard; plastic, grades No. 1 and No. 2; newsprint; telephone books; and leaves, grass and small brush.

The city will furnish the container and a calendar of scheduled collection days. The container should be placed curbside prior to 6 a.m. for pickup. Last week, the Earth Angels of Hot Springs recycled: 255 pounds — Aluminum cans.

77,160 pounds — Commercial cardboard.

2,271 pounds — Corrugated cardboard.

177 pounds — Newspaper.

787 pounds — Plastic grades No. 1 and No. 2. 55,640 pounds — Yard waste and C.A.P.S.

Last week, a total 68.14 of tons of recyclable materials were kept out of the landfill.
