HS/HSV Symphony Guild awards scholarship to Canu

-

Catie Canu, a graduating senior from Hot Springs World Class High School, was the recipient of a scholarship from the HS/HSV Symphony Guild and the Village Chorale.

“Each year, the HS/HSV Symphony Guild awards scholarships to deserving, talented students from Garland County who will be majoring in music or music education in college,” a news release said.

The scholarships are awarded based on the student’s audition, application grades and presentation.

During her audition, the Guild’s Education Committee “was very impressed with Catie’s performance of ‘Still wie die Nacht,’ Carl Bohm,” the release said.

Graduating in the top 5% of her class, Canu has been active in organizations such as Beta Club, National Honor Society and Student Council. She joined The Muses Creative Artistry Project as a freshman and now has become a young artist and soloist with the project. She will be attending Northwestern University to study voice/opera at the Bienen School of Music.

Canu was awarded $2,500 from the Symphony Guild and an additional $500 from the Village Chorale.

“The Guild’s Education Committee was delighted with her talent and was happy to make a contribution to her education,” the release said.

“Anyone wishing to be a member of an organization that has made so many significant contributions to music education for young people should join the HS/HSV Symphony Guild,” it said.

The annual membership is $20 per person, with $10 of each membership directed toward the Guild’s educational programs. Membership information is available at http://www. symphonyguild.org.
