The Sentinel-Record

Hometown newspaper announces staff changes

-

Beginning Tuesday, The Sentinel-Record will make two staff changes to further enhance its coverage of local news and sports.

Sports writer Krishnan Collins will transition to sports editor, and veteran writer James Leigh will transition from sports editor to a senior staff writer’s position in the newsroom, adding to the years of experience already provided by Managing Editor Steven Mross and senior Staff Writer David Showers, as well as its other award-winning journalists.

“We already have one of the best newsrooms in the state of Arkansas,” The Sentinel-Record’s editor, Mark Gregory, said. “These staff changes will better position our resources as our digital offerings continue to grow and only enhance the quality journalism we provide on a daily basis to Hot Springs and Garland County.”

Collins graduated with a degree in multimedia journalism from Arkansas State University in 2021 after time as a sports reporter, then sports editor and eventually editor-in-chief of the university’s newspaper, The Herald.

Collins moved to Hot Springs after graduating to become a general assignment reporter at The Sentinel-Record and then shifted focus to be a full-time sports writer.

Collins says he has held an intense passion for sports ever since he was little and looks forward to continuing his coverage of sports around Garland County.

A self-professed “coffee fanatic,” Collins enjoys watching soccer (and pretty much all sports), collecting sports trading cards and traveling.

Leigh, who on Saturday received a firstplace award from the Arkansas Press Association for Sports News Story, received his degree in mass media from Henderson State University in 2006. He started his career with the Malvern Daily Record, eventually being named sports editor at the publication.

He later joined the staff of the Daily Siftings Herald in Arkadelphia. After serving as sports editor there for two years, he was named editor of the newspaper, a position in which he served until he joined The Sentinel-Record in 2017.
