Man charged with felony for allegedly attacking father

A local man was arrested on a felony battery charge Wednesday stemming from allegations he attacked and choked his 65-year-old father with no apparent provocation.

Kristin Aaron Homan, 37, of 117 Calli Lane, was taken into custody at his residence shortly after noon and charged with second-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and was also issued a citation for contempt of court out of the county.

Homan remained in custody Thursday in lieu of a $3,500 bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court. According to court records, Homan had previously pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of third-degree battery, reduced from a felony count, on Dec. 20, 2018, in district court and was sentenced to one year in jail with all but 107 days suspended. He was also previously convicted of third-degree domestic battery in 2017 and sentenced to six months’ probation.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly before noon Wednesday, Hot Springs police Officer Christopher Gibson responded to the Calli Lane residence regarding a battery and spoke to the alleged male victim, 65, who stated his son, identified as Homan, had attacked him.

He stated Homan, who lives with him, had come outside the residence to where he was sitting on the front porch and immediately grabbed him by the neck and pushed him against the outside wall, using both hands to choke him.

When he pushed his father against the wall, he allegedly caused a laceration to the victim’s elbow and a bruise to his right hip. The victim also had visible red marks on his neck from Homan allegedly grabbing him.

Officers located Homan inside the residence and took him into custody and charged with felony battery due to the victim’s age. Battery is classified as a felony if the victim is younger than 12 or older than 60.

The affidavit said photos were taken of the victim’s injuries, but he declined medical treatment at the scene.
