The Williams House named July Business Yard of the Month
The Garland County Master Gardeners Yard of the Month Committee has selected The Williams House 1890 Bed and Breakfast at 420 Quapaw as its July Business Yard of the Month.
The Williams House is on the National Register of Historic Places. The owners, Cody Waite and Joe Bolima, are hands-on in all areas of the operation. “Mom,” Sharon Breshears, works tirelessly maintaining the landscape. Johnny Brecklin continues to provide lawn maintenance for the property, a news release said.
The home became a B&B in 1980 and now provides six guest suites in the main house and three suites in the Carriage House. There are two apartments in the Carriage House where the owners live.
“The Williams House built in 1890 was the first in the area to have electricity and phone service. At the front driveway entrance you see a large owl sculpted by a guest of the B&B from the trunk of an old oak tree. The tree was scheduled to be removed when he offered his art and chain saw talents. It took him months to complete the sculpture but the detail is amazing,” the release said.
“Large trees throughout the property provide abundant shade with water features, a pergola, and several sitting areas for guests. River Birch with their unique trunks, Japanese Maples, Crepe Myrtles and variegated dogwood add interest, texture and color. Butterfly bushes, Oak leaf Hydrangeas, Ajuga and ornamental grasses attract pollinators and provide additional interest. The peonies and Tiger Lilies were transplanted from Cody’s childhood home.
“Even in the summer heat, guests will enjoy walking through the beautiful and peaceful gardens. You step back in time in one of Hot Springs finest,” the release said.
