Making themselves rich
Dear editor:
America cannot be great again, in the nostalgic sense. We destroyed too many elements, including our abundant natural resources, that contributed to our greatness. The middle class made America great, not the wealthy.
Since 1980, Republicans have made the rich richer, helping them avoid taxes, and increasing the national debt. They destroyed our greatness, and the middle class. Before 1980, there was good employment and good-paying jobs. They sent the middle class plunging from over 60% to 46%. This sent the middle class, churches, Christianity, and democracy on a downward spiral. Ronald Reagan and Republicans created a plutocracy, transferring $50 trillion dollars from the middle class to the top 1%. They sent 10 million good-paying jobs and the products of 60,000 factories to China and other countries. These 60,000 factories were torn down or left vacant. Wikipedia explains the Republican approach as: “socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor, a classical political-economic argument asserting that, in advanced capitalist societies, state policies assure that more financial support goes to the rich than to the poor.” Intelligent people see this is not justice.
The party of the wealthy puts party above country. They are against voter rights, civil rights, human rights, equal rights, women’s rights, environmental quality, water and air quality, climate health, and natural resource conservation. The top 1% control the politicians, elections, judges, supply, demand, prices, and every aspect that once made America great. They only care about making themselves great.
The middle class created our greatness, “we the people” and not the upper one percent. Those blind to this will relegate themselves and future generations to the lower class and continued subservience to the wealthy. Voters must support the party that cares and wants to bring the middle class back. The party of the rich is destroying the middle class and democracy. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem and you will never see the greatness you say you want. Why are you OK with that?
