Felon arrested with multiple guns after probation officer visits home
A felon on probation was arrested Tuesday after several guns were allegedly found in his possession during a routine home visit by his probation officer.
Jared Raymond Eakin, 34, of 4777 Airport Road, was taken into custody at his residence around 2:30 p.m. and charged with three counts of possession of a firearm by certain persons, each punishable by up to six years in prison.
Eakin was being held on a $7,500 bond and was set to appear Wednesday in Garland County District Court. According to court records, Eakin was convicted of aggravated assault on Feb. 3, 2017, and sentenced to five years’ probation; convicted again on Oct. 23, 2017, of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and sentenced to five years’ probation; and again on Oct. 24, 2019, of two counts of first-degree forgery and sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all of it suspended, with all of the convictions in Union County.
According to the probable cause affidavit on Tuesday’s arrest, Garland County sheriff ’s Investigators Andrew Goodman and John Crow responded to Eakin’s residence regarding a probation officer needing assistance.
Richard Perry, supervising officer for Probation and Parole, told the investigators he and his team had come to the residence to conduct a home visit and during the course of the inspection had located three firearms.
Perry noted a rifle was found in a room next to the kitchen, a shotgun was found in the corner of the bedroom and a pistol was located on a nightstand in the bedroom.
The sheriff’s investigators allegedly recovered the rifle, a Savage MK II .22-caliber with a suppressor attached to the barrel, and located a box for a Springfield pistol in the same room with a receipt inside the box.
In the bedroom, they allegedly found a Springfield 12-gauge pump action shotgun with five shells next to it. They also found a Springfield XD-9 handgun chambered in 9-mm with three loaded magazines next to it.
On the front porch, investigators reportedly located multiple .22-caliber shell casings and multiple 9-mm shell casings. In the front yard, they found a pallet with paper targets stapled to and multiple holes in them.
After confirming Eakin’s status as a convicted felon on active probation, he was charged with the possession counts.
