Desoto GC to host lupus fundraiser

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Terry Paul Thode Lupus Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Desoto Golf Club to benefit the Lupus Foundation of Arkansas, Inc. Sept. 24.

The entry fee to participat­e is $80 per person or $320 per team. Players can choose to register as a single player, or players can also create their own team. The cost includes refreshmen­ts during the game, dinner after the round and an award ceremony.

The tournament will be played as a four-person scramble, and one mulligan is available per team at $6. On the day of the event, registrati­on begins at noon followed by a tee time of 1 p.m.

FL GOLF IN ACTION ON HOME COURSE

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Fountain Lake boys golf team took down Arkadelphi­a and Malvern with a team score of 121 over nine holes at Magellan Golf Course.

Fountain Lake’s junior varsity team finished second with a score of 128, followed by Arkadelphi­a (130) and Malvern (159).

Fountain Lake’s Carson Mccoy finished as the medalist after tallying a 35, while teammates Dillon Dettmering (40) and Evan East (46) rounded out the scoring for the Cobras.

Brayden Buss (39) led the junior varsity Cobras while Treyton Gray (41) and Brodie Mcmillian (48) followed closely behind.

On the girls side, Fountain Lake’s Jaylen Cameron earned medalist honors with a score of 51, but Malvern won the match with a team tally of 195. Lorelei Edwards (62) led Malvern, and Jada Jones (54) registered the top score for Arkadelphi­a.

Fountain Lake also hosted Clarksvill­e in an 18-hole match at Magellan Golf Course. The Cobras (234) beat Clarksvill­e (272) on the boys side with Coil Burks picking up medalist

honors after shooting a round of 76. Mccoy and Kolt Carden both finished the round a 79.

The Lady Cobras were led by Cameron (100), but Clarksvill­e’s Madison Pennington (92) finished as the medalist.

BISMARCK WINS ON THE ROAD

SMACKOVER — Bismarck traveled to Pine Hills Country Club and returned home with wins over Smackover.

The Bismarck boys finished with a score of 146 and easily cruised past Smackover (161). However, Smackover’s Judson Wolfe finished as the medalist after beating Bismarck’s Riley Tuttle in a one-hole playoff after both golfers finished the round with a 48.

The Lady Lions finished with a team score of 167, while the Smackover girls only had one golfer participat­e in Izzy Davis (62).

Bismarck’s Regan Parrie (56) finished as the medalist followed by teammate Ellie Norris (57) as the runner-up medalist.

OBU FINISHES SECOND IN GAC POLL

RUSSELLVIL­LE — The Great American Conference recently announced the results of its 2022 women’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll, and Southweste­rn Oklahoma State finished first in the vote followed by Ouachita Baptist in second.

The Tigers received two first-place votes after a 9-7-2 season. OBU returns First-team ALL-GAC members Jaymee Dotson and goalkeeper Michele Snow. Dotson also won GAC Midfielder of the Year, and Snow led the conference in saves and saves percentage.

Oklahoma Baptist finished third in the poll followed by Northweste­rn Oklahoma State in fourth. Harding finished just behind NWOSU in fifth. The Lady Bisons graduated Emma Roberts, the 2021 GAC Offensive Player of the Year. Roberts scored 17 goals last season.

East Central tallied a sixth place finish, and Southern Nazarene rounded out the poll.

GAC VOTES FORT HAYS STATE AS FAVORITE

RUSSELLVIL­LE — Coaches in the GAC voted Fort Hays State as the favorite in the 2022 men’s soccer preseason poll.

Southern Nazarene finished second, followed by Rogers State in third. Northeaste­rn State notched a fourth place finish, just edging Harding by one point. The Bisons return their leading scorer from last season in Georgios Petousis.

Newman finished sixth, and OBU rounded out the poll in seventh. The Tigers return their top three scorers in David Stankovic, Ebon Jordan and Bobby Boone.

GAC ANNOUNCES SPORTSMANS­HIP AWARDS

RUSSELLVIL­LE — The GAC recently announced its sportsmans­hip awards for the spring 2021 and 2021-22 seasons.

Harding won sportsmans­hip awards in women’s soccer, men’s cross-country, women’s golf and baseball for the spring 2021 season.

Also for the spring 2021 season, Henderson State won for men’s golf, Arkansas-monticello for softball and OBU for women’s tennis.

Harding won sportsmans­hip awards for men’s basketball, men’s golf and baseball during the 2021-22 season. OBU also picked up awards in women’s tennis and men’s cross-country.

“These awards tie into the NCAA Division II emphasis on sportsmans­hip and game environmen­t,” GAC Commission­er Will Prewitt said in a release. “We are proud of these institutio­ns that have displayed success on the scoreboard and in ways that aren’t necessaril­y reflected in wins and losses.”

The sportsmans­hip awards were created in 2012 by the GAC’S Student-athlete Advisory Committee to promote good sportsmans­hip among teams, fans and all involved with events at each school.
