GLENWOOD — John Russell Westfall, age 84, of Glenwood, Ark., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022.

He was born on Sept. 17, 1938, in Amity, Ark., the son of Russell Harrison Westfall and Edna Marie Wilson Westfall. He was preceded in death by his parents.

John married the love of his life and apple of his eye, Mary, on July 12, 1963. He was a member of Glenwood Freewill Baptist Church. He was a proud alumni of Glenwood High School. After high school, John achieved his master’s degree from Henderson State Teacher’s College. John served Glenwood High School as a teacher and principal for 17 years, where he was admired by all students. He was a mechanic in his father’s shop, that he later took over. He also worked maintenanc­e at the slate mill, owned by Certain-teed Products Corporatio­n. John was truly a jack-of-alltrades. John will be known as a legend by his family, friends, and all that knew and loved him. His love for his family was truly unconditio­nal.

John is survived by the love of his life for 59 years, Mary Westfall; his two daughters and son-in-law, Regina Smith, of Glenwood, and Lisa and Kevin Coakley, of Hot Springs; his son, John E. Westfall, of Glenwood; his grandchild­ren, Shannon Mccoy, Lela Westfall, Chris Westfall, Kelley Coakley, and Sean Coakley; his great-grandchild­ren, Shawn, Deidra, and J.T.; his six great-great-grandchild­ren; and numerous extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, in the Smith Family Funeral Home chapel in Glenwood, with Brother Bobby Lock officiatin­g.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the County Line Cemetery.

Pallbearer­s will be Shawn Mccoy, J.T. Mccoy, Darrell Mccoy, John Westfall, Kevin Coakley, and Sean Coakley.
