Felon arrested with gun, drugs following a rolling disturbance

- STEVEN MROSS

A parolee was arrested on multiple felony charges late Monday after a gun and drugs were allegedly found in his possession following a rolling disturbance between two vehicles.

Demarian Tyrell Ford, 45, who lists a Dunhill Street address, was taken into custody shortly after 11 p.m. and charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm, punishable by up to life in prison, possession of a firearm by certain persons, punishable by up to 20 years, possession of a controlled substance, meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia, each punishable by up to six years.

Ford remained in custody Tuesday on a zero bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court. According to court records, Ford was convicted of rape in Chicot County in 1995; he was convicted in Pulaski County in 2017 of failure to register as a sex offender and sentenced to three years in prison; and on Oct. 22, 2021, in Garland County for possession of meth with purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia and sentenced to six years in prison, but was paroled. According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after 10:30 p.m., Officer Cash Murray responded to the area of East Grand Avenue and Millcreek Road regarding a rolling disturbance between two vehicles where a known suspect, identified as Ford, was reportedly in a blue Nissan Sentra and was armed with a handgun.

Ford was reportedly wanted in connection to a domestic battery case that had occurred in Garland County a few hours earlier. After his arrest by HSPD, Garland County sheriff’s investigators filed a misdemeanor third-degree domestic battery charge against him.

The victim in the battery was reportedly following Ford in a white Chrysler 200 and Murray located both the vehicles on Millcreek at which point the Nissan turned onto East Grand and then onto Kelton Road “in an attempt to evade” him.

Murray caught up to the Nissan on Kelton and activated his equipment to make a traffic stop. An unidentified male passenger jumped out and fled, but the driver, identified as Ford, exited and got on the ground as ordered.

While on the ground, Ford allegedly “scooted” in front of the vehicle out of Murray’s sight at one point and then moved back to his original position. Ford was taken into custody and a baggie containing what later tested positive for meth was found in the spot he had moved to moments earlier.

Officers also found a black bag near the Nissan that contained Ford’s wallet, a set of digital scales, a syringe with a yellow liquid and a 9-mm handgun. It was noted as a felon Ford is not allowed to own or possess a firearm.
