Danny R. Bogler

-

On March 17, 2023, Dan’s body gave up the fight with Parkinson’s, that he courageously battled for over 15 years. We rejoice that his new body is without tremors and he can once again balance long distances on railroad tracks to explore timberlands, wade through rivers to fly fish and carry canoes through rough rapids.

Danny Ray Bogler, 73, was born March 13, 1950, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Stanley and Wilma Jean Bogler. Dan graduated from Jefferson City High School and attended Southwest Missouri State College, where he shot on the varsity rifle team. He transferred his sophomore year to University of Missouri, where he graduated with a degree in forestry. It was there that he took up trapshooting and shot on the University trap team.

Dan started his career with Weyerhaeuser in 1972, buying pinecones for their nursery in Magnolia, Ark. He retired 37 years later, as general manager/ vice president of Land Management for Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company for Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Alabama. He received many awards for his civic activities, including Garland County’s Industrial Employee of the Year, Weyerhaeuser Citizenship Award and President’s Award. Keep America Beautiful honored him in Washington, D.C., for his dedication in fighting litter along our Arkansas roads and highways. Dan was proud of the fact that he never had anyone say he didn’t deliver what he promised. His famous motto was, “Under Promise, Over Deliver.” Dan was a people person who regularly called his co-workers years after his retirement. However, Dan was most proud of his two children, Betsy and Ben, and his five grandchildren that he truly loved.

Dan was a Christian and worshipped at First Baptist Church in Hot Springs, where he was particularly active in their Rock Steady Boxing program, aimed at slowing down Parkinson’s.

Dan loved to canoe, camp, fly fish and was an avid bird watcher. His favorite areas were the Caddo and Eleven Point Rivers, Rio Grande Valley and our local Lake Hamilton fish hatchery. He loved taking beginners bird watching and took many groups on canoeing and camping trips. He also learned to play the mountain dulcimer quite well in adulthood. Whatever Dan decided to do, he did with excellence.

Dan is survived by his two children, Betsy (Cole) Efird of Hot Springs, Ark., and Benjamin Paul Bogler of Elmhurst, Ill.; and their mother, Janie Bogler of Hot Springs; five grandchildren, Levi, Luke, Landri, Liam and Lawson Efird; two brothers, Steve Bogler of Springfield, Mo., and Phil (Cheryl) Bogler; and two nieces, Madeline and Amelia Bogler of Gainesville, Fla. Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Wilma Bogler of Jefferson City, Mo.

His family would like to thank his “angel” and caregiver, Guillermo Corona; his neighbors, the Liscinski family and Amy Johnson; and all the volunteers and boxers with his First Baptist Rock Steady Boxing family, for their friendship and care for Dan his last few years. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, with service immediately following at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Dan requested that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to support Parkinson’s research. Guests may register at http://www.caruth-hale.com.
