She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jane (Carter) McCaslin and Laverne (Harley) Pendergraft; her brother, Olin McKinney; one son, Buddy McCaslin; one great-grandson, Carston Johnson; and her husband, Hermus McCaslin.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Lisa Hortman; two sons, Freddie McCaslin and Randy (Susie) McCaslin; grandchildren, Melissa Hardage, Stephen (Marcie) McCaslin, Jennifer (Chad) Askew, Miranda (Demarcus) Hardage-Smith and Mikey Edwards; great-grandchildren, McKinley Norton, Mary Sha Hardage, Millie Hardage, Alyssa Garner Liam McCaslin, Willow Askew, Karmen McCaslin and Mylee Rigsby; great-great-grandchildren, Zevyn and Zade Christon; and her longtime friend, Mary Baca.

Shirley was a Christian and a lifelong resident of Hot Springs. She worked as a nurse for many years, as well as an insurance agent. Her most important job though was taking care of her family. Her family loved her dearly, along with many others. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. To her children’s friends she was Mom and to her grandchildren’s friends she was Nanny. Many memories were made at her house where they would all gather.

She enjoyed family gatherings where they would all sing while her cousin, Brent, would play the piano, and the yearly trips she would make with her sisters and her niece, Laura Karber. She enjoyed working and helping Hermus at his produce stand and visiting with the people who came there. She will be missed greatly by everyone.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Lake Hamilton Health and Rehab for the care they gave her and the compassion they showed.

A family-conducted graveside service will be 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Royal, for family and friends. A memorial reception will be held at noon until 2:45 p.m. at the Gospel Light – Lake Hamilton Campus, 3212 Sunshine Road, Royal.
