Monthly Gallery Walk gets underway tonight
Hot Springs’ monthly Gallery Walk features the opening of new art exhibitions showcased in downtown fine art galleries and studio spaces from 5 to 9 p.m. today.
“From contemporary to traditional, the diverse offerings of Gallery Walk arts and cultural scene place Hot Springs as the place to be the first Friday of each month,” its sponsor, the Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance, said in a news release.
According to HSACA and news releases, the following galleries will be open for Gallery Walk tonight:
All Things Arkansas 610 Central Ave.
The gallery will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. Starting at 3 p.m., it will offer Stubby’s barbecue and peach cobbler to thank its customers for their support. At 4 p.m., The Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting. Ben Carey, lead singer of the band Census, will provide entertainment beginning at 6 p.m. All purchases other than wine will be 10% off all day today. In addition, door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.
American Art Gallery 724 Central Ave.
Featuring wood turnings by Daniel Zero to Infinity from DeQueen and Virgil Barksdale from Seminole, Oklahoma. “Both have very unique styles and beautiful work,” a release said. The gallery will also feature wall art by Jimmy Leach, Adam Hooker, Susan H. Washington and Gaylia Gilbert, as well as Southwest Jewelry by Ernie Bolieu, who will be present to discuss design and stones, and pottery by Valerie Hanks-Goetz.
Artists’ Workshop Gallery 610-A Central Ave.
The featured artists for August are Joe Wilcox and Jan Briggs.
Wilcox, originally from Michigan, is a self-taught artist who lives in Hot Springs Village. “Wilcox specializes in vivid landscapes, utilizing the wet-on-wet oil painting technique,” a news release said. “Wilcox has created a distinctive style all his own, drawing from life in Arkansas and his memories of Michigan.” His paintings can also be found at The Hotel Hot Springs. “Wilcox has a large social media following. Wilcox’s work may be found on his Facebook page, J. Wilcox Creations and on Instagram @jwilcoxcreations.”
Briggs, “transporting us through story, memory and playfulness,” paints the natural world in oil, watercolor, pen and ink and, unique to her, Pieced Watercolor. With over 65 years in Arkansas, Briggs has a BFA, has been active in Girl Scouts of America, various Arts groups, the community and Garland County FOL Board. Featured miniature artists are Jennifer Wheeler-Peterson and Linda Fletcher. Charlie Mink will entertain with tunes on his dulcimer during Gallery Walk. Call 501- 623-6401 for more information. The Circle Gallery at Emergent Arts 341 Whittington Ave.
The Prime Time Painters, a members group that paints together on Tuesday afternoons at Emergent Arts, will be showing their work, which can be seen through the month of August. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

The gallery features original fine art in diverse styles and mediums from Arkansas artists as well as internationally known artists, and carries women’s clothing, gifts, and housewares.
Justus Fine Art Gallery 827-A Central Ave.
Justus Fine Art Gallery will continue to showcase a selection of artist studies, along with examples of more developed work, during its August exhibition, with work by artists including Mark Blaney, Randall Good, John Lasater, Laura Raborn, Gary Simmons, and
Emily Wood. Justus Fine Art Gallery will host a reception for the exhibition during Gallery Walk. The exhibit will be on display through Aug. 30.
Legacy Fine Art Gallery 804 Central Ave.
Featuring artist Stephen Harlan, who will be present at Gallery Walk. Harlan is a “celebrated artist known for his captivating and vibrant artworks that seamlessly blend imagination, color, and emotion. His unique artistic style has garnered international recognition and his pieces are displayed in prestigious galleries and private collections worldwide,” the gallery says.

The photographic art of Rebecca Peterman includes architectural photos of downtown Hot Springs and the premier of her 50/Fifty Series of portrait stories of women over 50 and the ways they transform as they age.
Whittington Gallery 307 Whittington Ave.
Meet and greet around 60 artists and fellow art lovers over wine and refreshments. There is ample parking on Whittington Avenue and plenty of indoor seating to cool off. The gallery is welcoming a new artist this month, Renee Rivard, and will be featuring The Traditional Art Guild’s Art of the Month by Diana Burns.
