Dixon gives ‘Ice Breaker’ speech to Toastmaste­rs Club No. 7643

Justice of the Peace Esther Dixon gave her first full-length speech, called an “Ice Breaker,” last Saturday to fellow members of Toastmaste­rs Club No. 7643.

“An ‘Ice Breaker’ is largely telling the group who you are, hence the term,” according to a news release from the club, which meets at 8 a.m. each Saturday at National Park Medical Center.

Dixon, according to her speech, is justice of the peace for District 3 on the 13-member Garland County Quorum

Court; she is the founder of Diamonds in the Rough, a women’s transition­al ministry that “improves the quality, health, life, and well-being of women, youth and families”; she is 1st vice president of the National Associatio­n for the Advancemen­t of Colored People Chapter No. 6013 in Hot Springs, “which strives for equal civil rights and social justice”; and she is the executive director of Difference Makers of Hot Springs “bringing education, awareness, and assistance to the community. Most importantl­y, she is a mother and wife.”

“Toastmaste­rs trains its members by means of Compliment­ing, Critiquing, and Challengin­g each another; The speeches aim to Inform, Entertain, and Inspire. Anyone whom public speaking is required would benefit from Toastmaste­rs Internatio­nal,” the release said.
