Justice of the Peace Esther Dixon gave her first full-length speech, called an “Ice Breaker,” last Saturday to fellow members of Toastmasters Club No. 7643.
“An ‘Ice Breaker’ is largely telling the group who you are, hence the term,” according to a news release from the club, which meets at 8 a.m. each Saturday at National Park Medical Center.
Dixon, according to her speech, is justice of the peace for District 3 on the 13-member Garland County Quorum
Court; she is the founder of Diamonds in the Rough, a women’s transitional ministry that “improves the quality, health, life, and well-being of women, youth and families”; she is 1st vice president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Chapter No. 6013 in Hot Springs, “which strives for equal civil rights and social justice”; and she is the executive director of Difference Makers of Hot Springs “bringing education, awareness, and assistance to the community. Most importantly, she is a mother and wife.”
“Toastmasters trains its members by means of Complimenting, Critiquing, and Challenging each another; The speeches aim to Inform, Entertain, and Inspire. Anyone whom public speaking is required would benefit from Toastmasters International,” the release said.
