VCK Democratic Women host holiday party
The Virginia Clinton Kelley Democratic Women hosted its annual holiday party for members and guests on Nov. 28.
The party, held at the Webb Community Center in the Pleasant Street Historic District, included awards, door prizes, trivia, food and drink — “and lots of good cheer,” a news release said.
Paintings by budding youth artists from Elaine were featured in a silent auction with proceeds to benefit 2024 Democratic candidates.
VCK honored member and author Nancy Hendricks announced that the board will donate a copy of her book, “Ruth Bader Ginsburg: A Life in American History (Women Making History),” to the Garland County Library collection.
Ginsburg embodied the principles of VCK that include “promoting women in pursuit of truth and justice in government,” the release said.
Linda Ragsdale, two-year past VCK president and board member-at-large, was recognized with a donation in her name to the Arkansas Advocates for Children & Families, an organization whose mission she champions.
Board member Janetta Kearney announced a collaboration spearheaded by VCK member Kathy Rose with Chris Jones’ Vortex PAC to involve young people in the political process. Teddy Headlee, president of the Lakeside (High) Young Democrats, was introduced and noted their organization is “ready to hit the ground running.”
Kellye Wulfers-Lopez, board member, and Romeo Lopez hosted a rollicking trivia challenge that included categories for Arkansas Arts and Culture, Recent Political Drama, and Clinton-Gore. Vintage Clinton-Gore campaign buttons were also offered for sale to raise funds for 2024 candidates.
