Parolee already held for drugs, gun, facing new burglary charges

- STEVEN MROSS

parolee who has been in custody since his arrest on multiple drug and gun charges in December was served with felony warrants Monday for multiple counts involving a burglary in October where over $100,000 in property was taken.

Sean Allen Gaw, 41, who lists an Austin address, has now been charged with one count of conduct constituting conspiracy to commit residential burglary, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and five counts of theft by receiving, each punishable by up to six years, with bond on the new charges set at $16,000, but he was already being held on a $250,000 bond from his previous arrest.

According to his lengthy criminal history, Gaw was convicted in 2006 of writing hot checks and multiple counts of forgery and sentenced to five years’ probation; in 2007 of breaking or entering and sentenced to six years in prison; in 2009 of multiple counts of forgery and sentenced to 15 years in prison; and in 2016 of residential burglary, and multiple counts of forgery and theft by receiving and sentenced to 20 years in prison, but was later paroled.

He was arrested on Dec. 1 on charges of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of a firearm by certain persons, possession of meth with purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, three counts of theft by receiving and fleeing, and has a disposition hearing set for May 14 in Garland County Circuit Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit on the new charges, on Oct. 22, Hot Springs police responded to a residence on Pine Meadows Loop regarding a burglary and spoke to a friend of the homeowner who noted he had come by to check on the house since the homeowner was out of town and discovered it had been “ransacked.”

He also noted a maroon 2001 Dodge Ram pickup, valued at $1,230, and a 2008 Harley-Davidson XL motorcycle, valued at $3,875, were both missing from the residence along with 345 miscellaneous items valued at $94,717.25. The items included firearms, jewelry, silver, money, tools, memorabilia and personal documents.

On Nov. 16, a man came to the police department to turn in multiple items, including a silver watch, about 90 antique coins and several items of jewelry that Sean Gaw, a neighbor of the burglary victim, had allegedly provided to him for collateral for a vehicle.

On Dec. 5, following his earlier arrest, Gaw was questioned about the items after being read his rights and allegedly stated, “We were all sitting around getting high together, a bunch of us. It started with a conversation that (the victim) was going out of town and it grew from there.”

Gaw identified a suspect and alleged that man “and his minions” destroyed the place and had taken the vehicles. He claimed the people involved “gave me some stuff to keep my mouth shut and that’s what I gave for collateral.”

After further investigation, warrants on the theft and conspiracy charges were issued Monday and served that same day.
