Knicks’ Fisher has altercation with Barnes
NEW YORK (AP) — Knicks coach Derek Fisher was involved in an altercation with Memphis Grizzlies forward and former teammate Matt Barnes in California on Saturday, a person with knowledge of the details said.
The New York Post, citing an anonymous source, reported Wednesday that the altercation was because Fisher is dating Barnes’ estranged wife. Fisher filed for divorce from his wife, Candace, in March.
The person said Fisher traveled to Los Angeles after practice Saturday to see his children and the altercation happened that night while Fisher was attending a gathering at the home of Gloria Govan, Barnes’ estranged wife. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no comments were authorized.
Fisher missed practice Monday — the team announced at the time it was for personal reasons — and led the Knicks in their exhibition opener Wednesday night against a Brazilian club team.
Lakers’ Roy Hibbert and Jazz’s Trevor Booker scuffle
HONOLULU (AP) — Utah forward Trevor Booker was ejected at the 7:14 mark of the third quarter after an altercation with Hibbert. The pair got in each other’s faces after Randle drew a personal foul on the defensive end of the floor. Booker then took an openhanded swing at Hibbert. Replays appeared to show that he did make contact with Hibbert’s face. Booker was assessed two technical fouls and was consequently sent to the locker room. Hibbert also drew a technical foul.
Alec Burks scored six of his 27 points in overtime to help the Utah Jazz beat the Los Angeles Lakers 117114 in a preseason game Tuesday night.
In his second game back from rotator cuff surgery, Kobe Bryant scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting in just under 21 minutes of action. Bryant played 12 minutes and had five points in Sunday’s preseason opener.
