The summer months are winding down, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end! The Santa Clarita Community Centers have a plethora of after-school activities, active classes, and special events to look forward to in the coming months.

The Newhall Community Center is constantly abuzz with popular programs and new offerings throughout the year, and the fall season is no different. Registration is now open for several free and low-cost programs by visiting santa-clarita.com/ Seasons.

Students from kindergarten to high school can head to the Newhall Community Center after school from 3 to 7 p.m. for the interactive Leisure Enrichment Activities Program (L.E.A.P.) and iTEENS Program, Mondays through Fridays. L.E.A.P. and iTEENS offer structured programs for students to enjoy enrichment activities, focus on homework, relax with arts and crafts projects, and more.

The little ones can have their fun too at “Play N’ Learn Time.” Toddlers and their parents can join the interactive program which focuses on fine and gross motor skill development on Wednesdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Local youth and adults can take a swing at boxing fitness and boxing skills classes, available in several weekly sessions this fall at the Newhall Community Center. Local youth ages 8 to 17 can learn basic boxing skills and conditioning exercises over an eight-week session on Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 4 to 5 p.m. for free. More in-depth boxing classes for youth and adults take place Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings, starting at $20.

The Newhall Community Center also offers other enrichment classes such as the popular Ballet Folklórico Academy, Strings Program, and Karate Classes throughout the fall. More information about these exciting programs can be found at santa-clarita.com/NCC.

Across town, the Canyon Country Community Center is bursting with fun activities for every age. At the heart of the Canyon Country Community Center are the Family Programs, offering a time for families to exercise, enjoy movies, and play together throughout the week.

New to the Canyon Country Community Center is STAR Club SMART ProTrainer, a free 45-minute mild strength training class for adults with special needs, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. every Monday. Another new program offered this fall is ESL for Beginners, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Tuesday to Thursday.

Adults can join more gentle exercise options with Chair Yoga for training in proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, improved balance, strength, and training every Monday for nine weeks from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. for $56; and Low Impact Aerobics every Wednesday and Friday for 16 weeks from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. for $105.

Just like at the Newhall Community Center, students in Canyon Country can head to the community center for L.E.A.P. from 3 to 7 p.m. for activities and homework help.

Another fun event coming up at Canyon Country Community Center is the hopping Big Band Dance on Saturday, August 13. Adults can jump and jive to the music of the Big Band Era for just $2 (membership required). Dress in your best dapper duds and swing the night away!

These are just a few examples of the many enriching, affordable options available this autumn at the City’s community centers. Membership is free and required in order to participate in classes and programs at the centers.
