Pick up your trash, folks

One issue that I periodically see around town is the overabundance of litter and improperly disposed trash in the streets, sidewalks, and the surrounding landscape.

More so, I personally see people throw trash from their car windows and people constantly leave their paper or plastic cups everywhere around town.

I think it’s important to inform people of the harm they are actually causing the environment and surrounding wildlife if they continue these practices.

On average, more than $11.5 billion are spent on picking up litter, and more than 9 billion tons of litter end up in the ocean each year. It’s been estimated that 100,000 in sea life is killed by plastic litter every year.

Litter also attracts rats and can breed bacteria. We should set up more trash and recycling receptacles around town so that people will be less inclined to litter. Jenny Bustamante

Just a horse race

Watching this election is like watching a horse race. The spectators are yelling and screaming for their favorite (or not) horse. It’s even hard to breathe.

The air is heavy with the odor of hay and manure. The roar is deafening.

Secretariat is leading the pack, followed closely by Beetle-bomb. Surely one of those will win the race.

The big question now is: Will the pack remember why they are there and cross the finish line with manes flying?

Or will they continue balking at everything trackside and fall further behind the leaders?

It’s a puzzlement. So, folks, tune in next year for what could be the final episode of “I Love a Mystery.”

Farcicality of wouldbe presidency

Unfortunately, when

politician makes a declaration to win votes, we automatically know he/she is likely talking with forked tongue.

But here we have a politician who, during an election campaign, makes statements on important issues, then vacillates before the actual election.

This presidential candidate is one whose vocal cords have a tendency to be heard before consulting the brain.

Just recently we read where he is backing off the totally ridiculous idea of exporting 11 million illegals.

Wait, the other ludicrous idea that he will probably back away from is the infamous wall that he thinks Mexico will finance.

The Trump of four months ago, the Trump of today, and the Trump of four months from now is exactly the same. Let him hire and fire political advisers by the dozen, he will never, ever be presidential material. Dick Ramirez
