Angel Story

Ihave a few angel stories. I’ll share one. About 30 years ago I was going nuts as we had a prolonged rain storm that went on for about one week. I wanted to ride my motorcycle! The first day the weather cleared, I rode to work on it. At about 4 p.m. I could leave the office. It was February, so it would be dark about 5:30. I left Panorama City and headed for Little Tujunga Canyon. Starting up the canyon, I noticed sand, gravel and considerable runoff. I slowed and proceeded carefully.

When I got to Bear Divide, it was getting dark. Heading for Sand Canyon Road, I noticed a car behind me. The driver appeared to want to pass, but it wasn’t safe as the road shoulder was loaded with debris. When I got to the wash on Sand Canyon Road, I pulled to the right and stopped. The guy in the car pulled alongside and rolled down the passenger window. He yelled, “Is this the way to Vincent?” I replied, “No,” and told him how to get there. He thanked me and started to drive into the wash. He stopped, backed up and said, “Be careful here, it’s deeper than it appears!” He then drove into the wash and his car shuddered due to the current. He drove through the wash and stopped. It looked like he was waiting to see how I would do. I got off the motorcycle and walked to the edge of the wash. I gestured for him to go on and that I would turn around. He left and I did just that.

Getting home, I was in hot water with my wife for being late. We had dinner and I sat down to get the news. When I began to shiver, she said, “What’s wrong with you?” I replied, “I think I had a visit.” She asked, “What do you mean?” Sharing the event, I said, “This guy wanted to know the way to Vincent.” She said, “Where’s that?” Knowing (as being a history buff) it is between Acton and Palmdale. It’s on top of a long grade and had water tanks for the steam locomotives going to Los Angeles. It also had a small settlement about 100 years ago.

That angel stopped me from riding into the wash. He probably saved my life.
