Big rig overturns on Interstate 5

Diesel fuel from wreckage causes traffic backup

A crash involving an overturned big rig on Interstate 5 near McBean Parkway caused a traffic backup Monday afternoon after the vehicle started leaking fuel.

The big rig’s trailer overturned after it collided with the center divider going northbound on the I-5 at approximat­ely 2:09 p.m. Monday, a representa­tive

with California Highway Patrol said. The reason for the crash is under investigat­ion.

The trailer attached to the vehicle remained turned on its side and began leaking diesel fuel and oil.

A county hazardous materials team was not needed to clean up the mess left on the freeway.

The crash blocked the two right lanes on the freeway and caused 350feet of guardrail damage, according to CHP.

A Sig Alert was issue for several hours following the wreckage before lanes open back up.
