An early morning structure fire put Sand Canyon residents on edge as thick smoke rose over the area Monday.

The blaze, which was reported shortly after midnight on the 15300 block of Live Oak Springs Canyon Road, involved a fully engulfed motor home adjacent to a one-story house, according to Supervising Fire Dispatcher Michael Pittman.

“There was some extension into a bedroom,” he said.

Flames were seen flashing toward the sky as about a half dozen fire engines screamed up Sand Canyon Road to reach the scene.

The blaze was fully extinguished at 12:30 a.m. with no injuries reported, Pittman said.

The area saw significant fire activity about a month ago when the Sand Fire charred more than 50,000 acres and destroyed 19 homes.

Residents on Live Oak Springs Canyon Road were heard asking law enforcement officials if an evacuation was ordered shortly after the motor home erupted in flames.

No orders to vacate were given to surrounding homes.
