Talk of Santa Clarita: Jess Phoenix

Jess Phoenix is a resident of Acton who has a unique life. She is a geologist who studies volcanos. She also runs a nonprofit called Blueprint Earth that researches the Mojave Desert.

Her life is so unique, in fact, she was even featured on the Discovery Channel series called “Trailblazers” last year. But what makes her stand out in the Santa Clarita Valley is she is also a Democratic candidate for the 25th Congressional District.

Phoenix is one of the three democratic candidates who have hopes of unseating Republican Steve Knight. She has never run for office before but has been receiving assistance and guidance from 314 Action, a 501C4 nonprofit organization dedicated to getting scientists elected to office around the country.

She has said her motivation for running is based on the environmental threat posed by Donald Trump and Steve Knight due to the fact neither believes in climate change. She says she is also concerned about their attacks on immigrant families and women’s rights.
