The Signal

Today in history

-

Today is Thursday, July 6, the 187th day of 2017 and the 17th day of summer.

On this date in the SCV: In 1923, The Signal reported that Judge J. F. Powell, Rev. W.H. Evans and Mr. George Ahlers went to Acton on the Fourth of July and attended the Old Home Folks Day picnic, also taking part in the program in the afternoon. There were about one hundred and fifty people in attendance and they represented a number of towns in Southern California. Captain and Mrs. J. H. Haisch were the host and hostess and served ice cream and lemonade during the day. The dinner was a real old time family basket dinner, and among the number that had to be assisted from the table by a rope was – oh well, we won’t tell, but just ask Captain Haisch. The great event of the afternoon was the old time fiddle playing by left banded Billy Nail. It was a scream and even Parson Sutherland could not keep his feet still.
