President Trump defends Donald Trump Jr.

President Trum used his favorite form of socia media Wednesday to defend hi son as “transparen­t and inno cent” while attacking the new media for its coverage of Donal Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Rus sian lawyer.

“My son Donald did a good jo last night. He was open, trans parent and innocent,” Trum tweeted, referring to an inter view Trump Jr. gave to Sea Hannity of Fox News.

As investigat­ions continu into possible links between th Trump campaign and Russian who sought to interfere in las year’s election, Trump said “This is the greatest Witch Hun in political history. Sad!”

As for the media, Trum tweeted: “Remember, when yo hear the words ‘sources say from the Fake Media, ofte times those sources are made u and do not exist.”

Yet Trump Jr. himself re leased emails confirming medi reports that he took a meeting i June of 2016 with a Russian lawyer i the belief that she had deroga tory informatio­n about Hillar Clinton, his father’s electio opponent.

The emails also show Trum Jr. knew the potentiall­y “incrim inating” informatio­n was bein peddled by the Russian govern ment as part of its support fo his father’s campaign.

Trump Jr.’s exchange ha drawn the scrutiny of lawmak ers investigat­ing Russian inter ference in the 2016 presidenti­a election, and whether there wa any collusion with Trump asso ciates.

A special counsel, former FB director Robert Mueller, also i investigat­ing possible links be tween the Trump team and Rus sians who sought to influenc the election in favor of Trump b hacking Democrats close to Clin ton and leaking stolen materia to websites such as WikiLeaks.

In his interview with Hannity Trump Jr. said he should hav have handled the matter differ ently, and that it turned out th lawyer didn’t have any informa tion on Clinton.

“In retrospect, I probabl would have done things a littl differentl­y,” Trump Jr. said, add ing that the incident took plac before the avalanche of new about Russian election med dling. “Again, this is before th Russia mania. This is before the were building it up in the press.”

Trump Jr. said he thought th meeting would involve standar opposition research and he di not realize the implicatio­ns o dealing with someone who ma have been representi­ng a foreig government.

Despite his father’s jab at th press Wednesday morning, th president just minutes later sen a tweet promoting a news repor claiming that “Democrats hav willfully used Moscow disinfor mation” against the Trump cam paign — a story that relies on o anonymous sources.
