Empowering HeArts Nominations Open

- By Signal Staff

The Single Mothers Outreach (SMO) is proud to announce “Resilience” is the theme for the eighth annual Empowering HeArts fundraising gala set to take place on Saturday, February 10, 2018, from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Savia Community Center.

The Empowering HeArts program and event allows inspirational women and remarkable artists to collaborate and visually convey a story, centered on the theme of “Resilience.”

The worlds of social action and artistic expression are connected through this fantastic event. Each artist is paired with an honoree and is called to visually represent her story through the mediums of photography, collage, painting, or sculpture. A panel of industry experts will judge artists and the grand-prize winner will be announced at the gala and will be featured in a tribute program dedicated to and describing each woman’s story.

The Dottie Award is awarded to the artist who creates the most visually compelling story, and the People’s Choice Award is determined by the votes of gala attendees.

The honorees are women who have touched and shaped the lives of others, and they are nominated by the community and then selected by the SMO Board of Directors and Empowering HeArts Planning Committee. Those in the community are invited to nominate these women by following the guidelines on the SMO website.

Six artists are paired with six honorees. The artists may submit applications and sample portfolios to SMO for approval (please submit 5). The deadline for artists is September 18, and the deadline for honoree nominations is August 28.

Please visit www.singlemothersoutreach.org under the Empowering HeArts tab for more information.
