Surviving boys of accident in Acton still in critical condition; driver dies from injuries
Two children who survived a fatal solo-vehicle crash in Acton that claimed the lives of a Los Angeles woman, an infant girl and an eight-year-old boy, remain in hospital, their medical condition unchanged.
“The hospital says the condition of the other two has stayed the same,” Officer Josh Greengard of the California Highway Patrol told The Signal Monday.
The crash happened Thursday morning about 6:20 a.m. when a black Chevrolet Trailblazer left the northbound lanes of Highway 14, hit an embankment, flipped and ejected one of four children in the vehicle.
The infant was identified as 9-month-old Kaylynn Clay-Crawford, Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner told The Signal Monday.
Karen Adams, 37, identified as the driver of the Trailblazer, died at 00:46 hours Friday morning after being rushed to Antelope Valley Hospital.
Keion Jones, 8, succumbed to his injuries at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles shortly after the crash on Thursday morning.
Citing privacy laws, Greengard said he could not provide more information on the surviving boys – one aged 8, the other 14.
“On July 20th, at approximately 0620 hours CHP began getting calls of a solo vehicle rollover collision on northbound State Route 14, south of Ward Road in the unincorporated community of Acton at 0621 hours,” Greengard said in a news release issued Thursday morning.
“For reasons being investigated,” the driver of a Black Chevrolet Trailblazer, identified by CHP as Adams, allowed the SUV to veer to the right, colliding with the dirt embankment, causing it to overturn several times.
“One of the juveniles was ejected from the vehicle to which was an infant,” Greengard said.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family of the victims involved in a fatal SUV crash on Highway 14 near Acton on Thursday.
“This is so tragic please help us raise money for the funeral cost” the page states.
As of 6 p.m. Monday the campaign has raised more than $37,000 from more than 1,100 unique donors – far exceeding its original goal of $15,000.
Ray Yzguerra, a friend of the Jones Family, launched a GoFundMe page on Friday so as to offset the costs associated with Keion Jones’ funeral.
While no official cause of the accident has been ruled, the California Highway Patrol is still investigating the possible role of drugs and/or alcohol in the collision.
