Today is Tuesday, August 1, the 213th day of 2017 and the 43rd day of summer.

On this date in the SCV: In 1929, The Signal reported that The Boy Scouts of Troop No. 2, Newhall, crossed bats with the Power House team on the Saugus diamond in a game of indoor ball. The Power boys (men) are electricians and were fully charged, as was proven at the end of the first inning when the score was 6 to 0. For the next two or three frames the Scouts got their Indian sign working and jumped into the lead. Going into the 5th spasm, the Sprouts were leading 8 to 6, but at that time the Switch pullers throwed a jolt o’ juice into them, (the sprouts) and they immediately began to flash all over the field, but the switch being pulled, they couldn’t make contact and the Troopers went down scrapping to the tune of 28 to 17. Some disinterested bystanders said that the FlashOvers played with only one hand the last two jerks.
