District scheduled to consider budget revisions

- By Christina Cox

Following the adoption of the California State Budget, the Saugus Union School District is expected to review changes to its own revenues and expenditures during its Governing Board meeting today.

According to state law, the school district has 45 days since the Governor signed the annual budget on June 27 to make revisions to its own adopted budget.

Overall these budget changes and revisions reflect an increase of the General Fund ending balance of $1,405,049.

A major change is that districts throughout the state will receive $147 per Average Daily Attendance.

Additional changes include revenue increases to the district’s unrestricted and restricted budgets.

Revenue changes include increases to a one-time mandate block grant reimbursement, the unrestricted state lottery funds based on increased rates, the Induction Program revenue based on board approved budget, the restricted lottery funds based on increased rates, the projected special education funding, a Henry Mayo Grant and an Arts for All Grant.

The changes also include an increase in the district’s expenditures in its unrestricted and restricted budgets.

These changes include an increase in property liability insurance based on actual payment and an increase in Induction Program expenditures.

Governing Board members are also expected to approve of the purchase of Chromebooks, Chromebook carts and services for fourth grade students district-wide.

The cost of the Chromebooks and services is expected to be $296,620.43.

Distribution of the Chromebooks will follow the board’s ratio of 1:2, of Chromebooks to students.
