Grayson Stanford
1924-2017
Grayson Stanford passed away in his home the evening of Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the age of 92. He was born December 1, 1924 in San Fernando, CA and raised in Canyon Country, CA.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and, due to his expertise, the Corps quickly assigned him as Flight Instructor. After returning home, he married Betty Sawyer. Grayson and Betty would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on October 10, 2017.
Grayson’s diverse talents and brilliance allowed him to enjoy various jobs throughout his working years; employed with Clymore Ford and eventually spending most of his career as a mechanic and then engineer with Sun Oil in Newhall, CA.
Grayson’s passions were extenVLYH ¿UVW DQG IRUHPRVW LQ SURYLGing for his family, mentoring youth through his 18 years as a highly respected Boy Scout Master, serving as a member of the LA County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, enjoying time hunting with his sons and friends, always offering a helping hand to anyone in need, building/repairing/ creating anything - with a precision admired by all. In 1998, Grayson and Betty moved to Gardnerville, NV, where they thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of the area.
He leaves behind his wife Betty; their children: Don Stanford, Glenn Stanford, Jana Stearns, Leta Momet and Neal Stanford and their spouses: Cathy, Sue, Richard, Rick and Connie; four grandchildren: Elizabeth (Jeremy), Glenn, Linsey and Cody; four great-grandchildren: Joey, Carter, Cassi and Jake.
As Grayson’s health declined, he continued to inspire everyone around him. Each person that helped him though these last challenging months spoke of his kindness, strength of character, wit, and cheerful, positive attitude. He was still teaching by example, even as his precious time was coming to an end. Grayson will be greatly missed.
