Water Awareness Day a good idea

-

I wholeheartedly disagree with Sally White’s opinion article (“Water Legislation a Bad Idea,” July 20, 2017) that merging Castaic Lake Water Agency and Newhall County Water District is a “bad bill.” I also disagree with Ms. White that the merger is not good for our community.

Senator Scott Wilk proposed Senate Bill 634 seeking to establish a regional water agency for the Santa Clarita Valley. This would provide the residents of the SCV a single water provider and a more effective and less expensive way to deliver water.

Because of the recent drought, water has been limited locally, and merging the two water agencies would enable the new water district to provide, sell, manage and deliver surface water, groundwater, and recycled water for municipal, industrial and domestic use at retail and wholesale prices, as well as assist in joining new water resources within the Santa Clarita Valley. To me that is a benefit for our community.

I believe to clarify the issue, there should be a Water Awareness Day that will educate the community about the benefits that the merger will provide.

It would be a positive event in our community, and at the same time provide information and tips to learn more about the new district’s water plans.
