Cardinals seeking redemption vs. Tigers

Santa Clarita Christian has not beaten South Pasadena High in the past two seasons, and the Cardinals know it.

“Our coaches made sure that we definitely don’t take this week lightly,” said quarterback Blake Kirshner. “They beat us these past two years so we need to work even harder at practice and see if we can come out with a win.”

Tonight, Kirshner will be getting his second start at quarterback this season. In last week’s win over St. Bernard, he threw four touchdown passes and zero interceptions.

He’ll have a new challenge in the Tigers, who run a 4-4 defense, a different look than what the Cards are used to.

“This week they’re a well-disciplined team and they play cover

3, cover 4 so it’s almost completely different (from last week),” Kirshner said. “But I’d say we’re just as ready for South (Pasadena) as we were last week.”

Kirshner will have confident receivers to throw to in Ethan Schwesinger, Carson Schwesinger, Caden Brenner and Blaike Orth.

Carson and Brenner each had touchdowns last week. Orth nearly had one, according to Kirshner, whose goal is to connect with Orth tonight.

“I actually missed him on like two throws last week that would’ve probably been touchdowns, so we were getting work after practice making sure that that doesn’t happen,” Kirshner said.

SCCS will be on the road against South Pasadena at 7 p.m.
