Suspicious package brought to station being studied

-

Specially-trained bomb experts called to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for a suspicious package scooped it up and took the package away to study it and figure out what it was.

The suspicious package brought to Santa Clarita by a man who found it in Riverside for an unknown reason. Members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Arson/Explosives Detail responded to the Sheriff’s Station on Magic Mountain Parkway at Valencia Boulevard Thursday morning.

“Somebody found a suspicious package and decided to bring it in,” Lt. Ignacio Somoano told The Signal Thursday.

“We’ve called in our Arson/Explosives Detail to check it out,” he said.

“We’ve isolated a section of the parking lot (on Magic Mountain Parkway at Valencia Boulevard),” Somoano added.

When the Arson/Explosives Detail arrived, members of the detail scrutinized a green pickup truck which contained the package.

“It was suspicious but it may not have anything harmful,” Lt. Leo Bauer told The Signal late Thursday afternoon.

“Our Arson/Explosives unit retrieved it and now they’re conducting an investigation to determine what it is,” he said.

Throughout the operation, no one was hurt, nothing exploded and no buildings in the area were evacuated.

Bauer offered this advice to anyone who finds a suspicious package: “Back away and call us.”
