One man is custody and another man is still being sought in connection with a brazen daytime mugging in Canyon Country this week in which a man was accosted by thieves who snatched a gold chain from his neck.

The victim, described as a 33-yearold Hispanic man, was confronted midday Tuesday by two men who demanded money.

“At midday Tuesday, deputies responded to the 19400 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country regarding a robbery that just occurred,” Shirley Miller of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station told The Signal Wednesday.

“The victim, a male Hispanic, age 33, stated that he was walking near the business location when he was confronted by two male black adult suspects,” she said.

“The suspects asked the victim for money.

“After the victim declined, the suspects allegedly grabbed a gold necklace off of the victim, and ran away out of view,” Miller said.

Deputies who responded to reports of the mugging caught up with one of the suspects, she said.

“A responding deputy located one of the suspects,” Miller said.

Christopher Cox, 19, of Canyon Country, was arrested about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of robbery, a felony.

Cox remains in custody with bail set at $25,000.

Tuesday’s arrest marks the third time Cox has been arrested in the SCV in the last year.

About a year ago, Cox was arrested on suspicion of the misdemeanor offense for allegedly bringing ammunition to school.

He was scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court Thursday. Then, late last month, he arrested again on suspicion of burglary. The second suspect, remains at large.
