Barger to host trail ride at Castaic Lake

To promote recognition of Los Angeles County’s trail system, Supervisor Kathryn Barger will be hosting a trail ride next month.

Locals are invited to take part in a three-and-ahalf-hour ride on horseback around Castaic Lake to recognize the 200 miles of multi-use trails in the county.

“Supervisor Barger believes that we need to increase awareness about the many recreational opportunities in the fifth district,” Barger’s Communications Deputy Tony Bell said. “This trail ride highlights one of our county’s great natural resources, which is the Santa Clarita Valley. It will be helpful and fun to be equestrians and enjoy the great outdoors.”

The event, cosponsored by the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, will be held on Sunday, Nov. 12 starting at the Castaic Lake Staging Area at 32132 Castaic Lake Dr.

A pancake breakfast will begin at 7 a.m., the trail ride will start at 9 a.m. and the event will conclude with a barbecue lunch and live country music. There will be rest stops and refreshment breaks during the ride.

There is a $30 fee to cover the cost of food, which does not include the cost of the horse rental.

Those who do not want to ride are still invited to come and those who are under 18 must be with an adult. Service animals are welcome and stallions are not allowed.

Preregistration must be completed by Friday, Nov. 10.

Registration forms can be downloaded at parks. lacounty.gov and should be sent with $30 to the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation at 32132 Castaic Lake Dr., Castaic, CA 91384.
