The Dodgers fell to the Astros, 5-1, Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium as the Astros celebrated their first World Series title in franchise history.

LA was making its first appearance in the World Series since 1988 and their 29-year World Series title drought stands as the 11th-longest in the majors.

Yu Darvish got the start for the Dodgers and exited the game with two outs in the second after allowing a two-run homer to George Springer, the World Series MVP, to give the Astros a 5-0 lead.

The Dodgers tallied their only run of the night on an RBI single from Andre Ethier in the sixth. After Brandon Morrow recorded the final out of the second, Clayton Kershaw fired four scoreless innings of relief. Kenley Jansen worked a scoreless seventh and Alex Wood tossed two scoreless frames to

keep the Dodgers within striking distance.

The Dodgers collected six hits compared to five for the Astros but went 1-for13 with runners in scoring position.

Springer doubled to lead off the game and came around to score on a throwing error from first baseman Cody Bellinger. Jose Altuve followed with an RBI groundout in the first and Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr. added a run-scoring groundout of his own in the second.

Charlie Morton allowed one run in four innings of relief, allowing just two hits, to pick up the win.
