Knights come out in full force for homecoming

Prep football: Trinity’s Tyler Lee, Carson Campuzano start game off strong, get team’s first league win

With the bright lights of the gridiron on and the thirst for a league win, Trinity Classical Academy’s Tyler Lee quickly became a magnet for Phineas Yi passes.

Yi connected with Lee for touchdowns twice within the first 20 minutes of the game against Firebaugh of Lynwood at Fillmore High School. The two scores were key in creating momentum for Trinity’s 44-0 win on Friday night.

Lee’s first touchdown was followed by a successful two-point conversion, setting the Knights (3-7, 1-2 in Prep League) up with an early 8-0 lead.

Soon after, Hobbs Christopher recovered a fumble and set up Lee’s second touchdown of the night. Yi passed to Kyle Fields for another two-point conversion.

The Knights wanted to give the crowd a homecoming game they would remember. They weren’t going to let the season escape them without a Prep League win.

Wide receiver Carson Campuzano matched Lee’s scoring performance as he caught two touchdown passes — one during late in the first quarter, the other early in the second.

Yet Campuzano wasn’t satisfied with scoring off passes from his own team. He scored before the end of the second quarter off an interception to pull Trinity ahead 37-0.

The Knights opened up the second half with a touchdown by Oscar Hernandez, with Lee executing the PAT. Then, with 2:44 remaining in the game, Greg Salazar recovered a fumble to stomp out any last chances of a Firebaugh (2-8, 0-3) touchdown.

With the win, Trinity is now 2-0 against Firebaugh historically.
