Teen arrested after stabbing altercation
60-year-old victim transported to local hospital following incident, listed in critical condition
A 17-year-old Canyon Country boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, accused of stabbing a man and hitting him with a baseball bat Sunday evening.
Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station took the boy - a juvenile - into custody Sunday in connection with a stabbing that took place in a Canyon Country apartment, officials told The Signal Sunday.
“On Sunday evening, Nov. 12, 2017, at approximately 5:49 p.m., Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received a call of a victim being assaulted with a baseball bat, and stabbed, on the 19400 block of Stillmore Street in Canyon Country,” Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station said in a news release issued Monday morning.
The assault reportedly took place inside the apartment complex.
“The victim, a 60-year-old male, was found at the location suffering from multiple stab wounds, and he was transported to a local hospital,” Miller said. “He was listed in critical condition at hospital last night.”
“The suspect fled the location prior to the deputies’ arrival,” she said.
The suspect fled the location before deputies arrived but he was later located by deputies with the help of family members, Lt. Becerra told The Signal Sunday.
The suspect was taken into custody Sunday night around 10:22 p.m. and booked.
No motive or information regarding the nature of the attack, nor any information regarding the suspect or victim, are being released at this time, Becerra said.
Detectives had yet to interview the suspect, and the victim was in surgery Sunday night, he said.
Deputies were able to make contact with the juvenile’s family members, and the father of the teen eventually brought him to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station later Sunday evening.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation by COBRA Team detectives at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Miller noted in her news release.
