Opening of Canyon Santa Clarita delayed

Music lovers looking forward to the opening of Santa Clarita’s newest live music venue, Canyon Santa Clarita, will have to wait a bit longer.

Friday’s show featuring The Gin Blossoms and Saturday’s concert with headliner Petula Clark have been cancelled, due to delays in finishing work on the space formerly occupied by Red Robin and other retailers in Westfield Valencia Town Center mall.

“We are literally working around the clock, doing everything humanly possible to be ready to open our Santa Clarita venue,” said a statement on Canyon’s website. “But despite our efforts, that is not going to happen this weekend. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this has caused our customers.”

Ticketholders to The Gin Blossoms show were offered the chance to exchange those tickets for another show at The Canyon Santa Clarita and receive a two for one credit.

Those with tickets to see Petula Clark can attend her concert at The Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills tonight at 8 p.m. and will receive a two for one credit on their next ticket purchase at The Canyon Santa Clarita. Those who don’t attend the concert at The Saban will receive two for one credit when they trade their tickets for another show in Santa Clarita.

Local singer Savannah Burrows, who was scheduled to open for Clark, will be rescheduled.

“We don’t take this lightly,” said club spokesperson Luanne Nast. “Canyon Santa Clarita is an enormous project that we began planning eighteen months ago, and we began booking acts 12 months ago. We had a delay in the leasing process that cost us some time, and we’ve been working around the clock to get the venue open.”

She said the club called everyone who bought a ticket to last night’s show to let them know of the changes.

Canyon Santa Clarita, an 1,100-seat venue, is the fifth concert space opened by Sterling Venue Ventures and its owner Lance Sterling. It joins The Canyon in Agoura Hills, The Saban in Beverly Hills, The Rose in Pasadena and the Libbey Bowl in Ojai.
