Standoff in Newhall ends peacefully
The standoff with a man believed armed inside a house in Newhall ended peacefully Wednesday after about four hours.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials, who had called in heavily armed tactical members of the Special Enforcement Bureau, posted the peaceful resolve on their social media accounts.
“Good news,” the posting reads. “The barricaded suspect situation on the 25200 block of De Wolfe Road in Newhall has been resolved peacefully. Suspect came out
and is in custody. Neighborhood safe.”
Shortly after 10 a.m., deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a domestic disturbance call, Sgt. Ron Price told The Signal.
Homes near a house on the 25200 block of De Wolfe Road, near Evans Avenue, were evacuated, Deputy Guillermina Saldana, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, said in a news release issued Wednesday morning.
Deputies immediately began setting up a command center at the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Peachland Avenue, he said.
“The SEB Special Weapons Team has assumed command of the tactical response and the Crisis Negotiation Team is on scene to help bring the situation to a peaceful resolution,” Saldana wrote in her news release.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s SEB unit is responsible for handling high-risk tactical operations involving barricaded suspects, hostage situations, and high-risk warrant services. The heavily-armed SEB unit is similar to the image many people have of a SWAT team.
