Deputies seize firearm, narcotics in traffic stop
A weekend traffic stop in Canyon Country led to the arrest of a felon who was allegedly found to be in possession of narcotics and a stolen firearm.
Around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night, deputies were monitoring traffic on Sierra Highway in Canyon Country when they noticed a Chevrolet Suburban pass by without license plates or a registration tag posted in the window, Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station wrote in a post to the sheriff’s social media.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The deputy noticed a baggie with narcotics residue sitting on the driver's lap, she mentioned in her post.
“Upon further investigation, the deputy found more baggies in the car, a digital scale, methamphetamine and a firearm,” Miller wrote.
When firearm records were checked, deputies discovered it was reported stolen. The handgun was reported stolen in a Santa Clarita Valley residential burglary that occurred in 2015.
The driver, 36, of Canyon Country, was found to be a convicted felon, Miller wrote in her post.
Deputies arrested the man on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with firearm, concealed firearm in vehicle, felon in possession of ammunition, felon in possession of a firearm, transportation for narcotics sales, and receiving stolen property.
