A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism Wednesday, one day after deputies watched video surveillance of a truck tearing up the outfield at the Hart Pony baseball field.

“We detained a 17-year-old male in conjunction with the vandalism at the baseball field,” Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station told The Signal Wednesday afternoon.

The boy’s identity was not because he is a juvenile.

“The only thing I can tell you is he’s a local boy,” Miller said, noting damage to the baseball field would cost about $3,000 to repair.

Early Sunday morning, vandals in a “raised” truck crashed through a chain link fence at the Hart Pony baseball field where they churned up sod in the outfield, broke sprinklers

disclosed and destroyed turf with the vehicle.

Officials with the William S. Hart Pony Baseball & Softball League who had installed field cameras at the park for the purpose of televising games this season, recorded the incident.

Recorded footage of the vandalism was shared with, and studied by, detectives with the SCV Sheriff’s Station Monday.

“The detectives were able to get a hold of the surveillance footage and were able to identify the truck which led them to a 17-year-old male,” Miller said.

Damage was done to Colt Field at the Hart Pony baseball complex at the west end of Auto Center Drive.

“We don’t know if we’re going to have to re-sod or re-seed, but it’s going to take a few thousand dollars to repair,” the park’s facility manager told The Signal Tuesday.

“They tore up the whole outfield,” he said.
