SCV veterans services center grand opening set for today

- By Perry Smith Signal Deputy Managing Editor

The Santa Clarita Valley Veterans Services Collaborative Center on Lyons Avenue has been a hub of activity the last few months, and it’s been gearing up recently ahead of a grand opening today at 11 a.m.

The Lyons Avenue location is 1,300 square feet of space dedicated to supporting veterans in a number of ways.

The Home Depot on Newhall Ranch Road donated thousands of dollars of services and products to give the space new hardwood floors and a fridge, among several other items, which was just one of the many community contributors to pitch in, said Elliott Wolfe, who wanted to support veterans and decided to partner with several agencies—including College of the Canyons, which hosts monthly meetings for the Veterans Services Collaborative.

The office is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, and Saturday and evenings by appointment, and offers a place for veterans to gather, and also gain information about any services for which they might be eligible.

More information is available at the collaborative’s website: SCVVets.org.

If anyone would like to attend the grand opening, it’s being held at the new center’s location at 23222 Lyons Ave.

Congressman Steve Knight and Assemblyman Dante Acosta are just a few of the elected officials who are expected to be there, Wolfe said.

“We’re trying real hard,” Wolfe said of the collaborative, “we’re serious about helping veterans, and we’re getting veterans coming in daily.”
