Cheap shots are easy

Anthony Breznican’s commentary “Steve Knight boasts while America grieves” on March 6 was nothing but a nasty hit piece on a decent man who’s targeted for nothing less than not being a leftist.

The twisted theme was to paint Congressman Knight as non-caring about the Florida school massacre.

That is lower than bargain-basement thinking.

Knight has a lovely family with two boys who attended public schools and a wife who is a registered nurse. Those facts coupled with the verity that he is a military veteran and a retired police officer, tells the story that Knight has every reason to care about school safety and humanity in general.

Moreover, it’s a safe bet that Knight has seen more of the merciless and cruel side of life than Breznican ever will.

Breznican offers all generalities— no specifics—and appears to muddle Knight’s voting record as a California State Legislator and a present member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Again, with no specifics, the accusation is made about Knight of “his many dangerous votes against gun safety;” let’s look at a couple of bills and votes.

California SB-374 (09/10/13) was for wider definition of assault weapons. It passed the House and Senate. Knight voted “Nay” and so did Governor Jerry Brown—he vetoed it.

California SB-755 (09/12/13) was to be a 10-year ban on firearm purchases by people convicted of crimes—expanding the list to include more misdemeanors. It passed the House and Senate. Knight voted “Nay” and so did Governor Jerry Brown—he vetoed it.

Obviously, Knight doesn’t vote in “lock-step” or only with the “right.”

Unbelievably, Knight was criticized for his positive messages about companies strengthening and workers getting pay bonuses.

Breznican saw them as distractions (to Florida) and as bad things. The pure hate looms large. It isn’t personal against Representative Knight; the cheap shots and bitterness would be equal if his name was John Jones. It’s that the Leftists and liberal Democrats are consumed with unbridled animosity and resentment against anything and everyone not them.

They demand the 25th Congressional seat to be filled by a Democrat, and they don’t care which one or how they get it. Individual be damned; just as long as it’s a Democrat.
