Three men appeared in court Thursday, each accused of having attacked a law enforcement officer in separate and unrelated incidents

In each case, the accused man was ordered to appear back in court for further proceedings.

Trenton Trevon Lovell, a 27-year-old parolee, faces one count of murder with the special circumstance allegations of murder for the purpose of avoiding or preventing a lawful arrest and murder of a peace officer, DA spokesman Ricardo Santiago said.

Lovell is accused of shooting Sgt. Steven Owen, 53, multiple times on Oct. 5, 2016, shortly after the Owen arrived at the 3200 block of West Avenue J-7 responding to a residential burglary call.

Lovell, who is being prosecuted by a the Crimes Against Police Officers Section of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, appeared in the Michael Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse for a hearing in advance of his preliminary hearing.

He was ordered to return to court Apr. 16. Shot in the neck The second of three men accused of assaulting officers who appeared in court Thursday was Monolito Guerra, 29, of Newhall, who stands accused of shooting a local sheriff’s deputy in the neck.

The wounded deputy was shot Nov. 28, while investigating a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in Newhall.

The bullet entered into one side of his neck and out the other end less than an inch away from his spine. The wounded deputy was treated and later released from Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.

Guerra, who had been on parole in Newhall for a little over a month on assault and evading arrest convictions, was arrested a month after the shooting due to injuries he sustained during the incident.

He is scheduled for arraignment in San Fernando Superior Court. Punched in the face The third man to appear in court Thursday for allegedly assaulting a sworn officer was 28-year-old Erik James Pigati, of Canyon Country.

Pigati was arrested in January on suspicion of battery on a peace officer with injury, a felony.

As deputies were helping two intoxicated males in Canyon Country, one of two men punched a deputy in the face in an unprovoked attack.

The extent of the deputy’s injury was not disclosed.

Pigati was ordered to appear back in court on May 7 for a pre-trial hearing.
