The city’s Santa Clarita Safe Routes to School Program plans to host a Walk and Bike Audit at Arroyo Seco Junior High School on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The purpose of the audit is for students to provide their feedback on the routes they use to get to school and share traffic and infrastructure concerns to help identify barriers that make walking or biking to school challenging, according to a press release.

At the walk and bike audit event, students will receive a school map to identify locations of concerns. City staff will be documenting the students’ concerns and create recommendations to propose improvements and future funding opportunities.

The Santa Clarita Safe Routes to School programs are made available through the California Active Transportation Program and include the creation of committees to encourage students, parents and school administrators to participate in walking and bicycling to school.

Walk and Bike Audits assess conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians for engineering improvement recommendations.

The goal of the program is to integrate health, fitness, traffic relief and environmental awareness.
